porridge

In August I not just celebrated my sixth month from birth, I had also a number of other milestones. From the start of the month, I can roll over with ease from my back onto my belly. I am now happy to spend a lot more time on my belly. Only in the middle of the night it might get boring and my parents need to help me out. They have to come downstairs for that, as I got my own room, another milestone. My parents don't mind coming downstairs to roll me over, as on most nights they get to sleep a lot more. Some nights I don't wake them up between midnight and 6am. They are so kind to me the next day! In August, I also started to complain when a toy is taken away and to track toys with my eyes when I throw them on the floor, which I like to do from my high chair.

I am now partially on solids. I eat loads of porridge, and fruit and vegies, like carrots, butternut squash, green beans, apples, either mashed or in pieces to suck on, bananas with or without avocado, sweetcorn and my favourite spinach. All is cooked by mummy, but breakfast and weekend feeding is normally done by daddy.

From the middle of the month, I am able to sit upright on the floor. This gives a whole new perspective to my world. As I am spending more time in my baby chair, I take the opportunity to investigate the shadows that my hand makes on the table:

in the rain with Thijs and Ceciel in the rain with Thijs and Ceciel

Have you seen my superman outfit Milly gave me? Or me playing with my friend Orla? Or me wearing my mother's sunglasses? Or me eating my passport? Or me standing on my mother? Me smiling during my session of 'naked time' just before I have my daily bath or writing on myself? Or me just lying on my quilt with my blue bib or white bib?

The last visitors in a long row since my birth were friends Thijs and Ceciel from Haarlem. We went for a walk just south of London with pub lunch and a bit of rain, which did not prevent my mother from giving me my bottle.

For the last week of August, my parents rented a cottage in the Dordogne region of France. My father has visited this region a lot when he was younger and it is full of Dutchies. Our cottage is located in St Leon sur Vezere between Brive and Les Eyzies. We left London on Friday evening and drove through the night. I liked the cool temperature and did not mind being woken occasionally, for example when we went through the Channel tunnel.

The cottage proved lovely and I quickly settled in. Whenever I was grumpy, my parent would just take me for a short walk in the garden. On all days, I got my bath in the evening, just before my parents had their barbecue. Most days we went for a walk, either a short walk to St Leon or bigger ones. arboretum table lunch A slightly bigger one brought us to Peyre-Le-Moustier , where I enjoyed the picnic table in the arboretum with my mother. The longest walk brought us to Le-Moustier via the prehistoric site of Roque-St-Christophe and back around to St-Leon, where we all had lunch. The last full day we went to Sergeac, where I got my bottle, my mother a Temple knights church, but my father missed out on a terrace.

bath

On only two days we did proper sightseeing, the caves of Lascaux II and the lovely city of Sarlat, but no records survive of that. Just more of enjoying the garden and a bottle or my naked time with an improvised toy, which made noises when crunched, just before another bath. We drove back home in two days. I did enjoy the stay in a budget hotel a lot after a Saturday driving trough heavy traffic in 35 degrees heat - we all wished we had left a bit more driving for the Sunday, when the temperature was cool and the traffic was light until the M25.
