In June, Emma kept sleeping well during the day, although in preference on somebody's chest rather than in the designated Moses basket in the parent's bedroom, where big brother may sit watch and lend a hand when changing nappies and play with Laura. Eating is how we spend the rest of the day.

Leaving would be a central theme of June. However, Sam managed to organize the first leaving do with a barbecue in her garden; our Ozzie boy managed to keep himself entertained.

picnic

The second leaving do was a picnic with the ante natal group in Bunhill fields, which we have been overlooking from our terrace for years without ever using it for a picnic. Piet climbed on the park benches with Ludo and Theo, who also caught up with Marco. Jan's cousins Huug and Margreet popped in the next day to see the family addition.

Piet needs to know what is going on. Instead of holding him, we now sit him on the kitchen bench. Daddy was able to come home from work before 6pm each day in June, as he was working out his notice period. Pen kept coming a full day each week; Piet played with the cloth that he likes putting around his neck and looked serious at other moments; Emma would sometimes consider sleeping on mum's lap in between feeds; the whole family visited the Hoekemas for their family addition: Melissa, who had the same birth weight as Emma; Emma had a nap on daddy's chest.

party early party later

On 20th June, we held a leaving party at our flat. Initially, it were mostly babies at the centre of the attention. As the evening progressed, the focus shifted to the fridge, kitchen and a civilized chat.

Throughout the year, Piet has managed to switch on the telly regularly. We believed it was mostly accidental, but when on 22nd June dad switched offd a childrens program thinking Piet had lost interest, he immediately went up to the coffee table, ignored the video remote, picked up the television remote control and switched the telly back on. We wonder what he has been up to when we weren't watching...

Just as good as telly are the buses, which Piet has admired all year while standing in the window sill above the nappy changing unit in the downstairs bedroom. He also discovered the fun of bouncing Emma, who showed off her first smile.
