Tallangatta valley
In April, we went to Tallangata Valley to visit aunt Kelly and Glenn. The first thing that had to be done on Saturday morning was feeding the chooks. Piet and Emma helped
auntie 'Bell' bring out the compost, spread some
seed and watch the chickens
eat it. The next activity was an inspection of the
veggie patch. Piet enjoyed
eating apples and
picking them with Emma. Then came the horses. Emma always wants to pat horses and started with patting their
noses across the fence with Kell. We went into the paddock and she continued patting their
manes with mum.
The rest of the weekend, whenever Emma would spot a horse, she would indicate she wanted to pat it. We finished the morning horse business with feeding the
mare that has a foal.
We went for a walk across the property. Emma slept in the rucksack, but Piet mostly walked himself. He crossed the little stream on some stones. Later on, he took his boots off and waded through. The weather was still nice, so he was allowed back into the stream and entertained himself throwing twigs and leaves and stones into the water.
In the round yard, Piet and Emma enjoyed a pile of sand that had to be spread around, although we did not work all the time. Everyone found time for a chat.
Pappa's birthday
Back home, Piet and Emma has lots of
fun crawling into the bookshelves after they had taken all books
out. On Tuesday, it was dad's birthday. He was happy with his new
shirt and especially the electric
hedge trimmer, while oma had not forgotten presents for
Piet and Emma. After all, someone's birthday is more fun if you get presents too. Mum had baked a very impressive
football cake. Piet helped blowing out the
candle, which we repeated in the afternoon when the
Dutch language/playgroup came around.
Bendoc
On Thursday, we drove up to Bendoc for easter with the grandparents. Piet had to help opa with harvesting the potatoes that had sprouted up in the compost heap. He brought his
wheelbarrow and put the
spuds in it. He also helped opa
search the other side of the heap.
On Sunday, the easter bunny had hidden some chocalate eggs in the garden. Piet found the first egg. He found more in the garden beds, while Emma spotted her first one on the path. By the time they went round the back of the house, the bucket contained loads of eggs.
Piet hitched a ride in opa's car. The autumn colours were beautiful in the horse paddock. Emma did a lot more horse patting - in the end, she would even walk all the way to the horses as mum refused to carry her - but we spare you the pictures. The kids had the usual fun on the trampoline. Emma sat in her wheelbarrow. Later, she lifted it over a pile of grit and climbed on top. The last day of our stay, the kids proudly helped grannybunts fill a letter 'p' and 'e' in the grass with flower bulbs.
