For the second weekend in September, mum, Piet and Emma went skiing with the usual group of friends. They had rented a communal cottage in Jindabyne from Friday to Monday. They drove off at half past five on Friday morning, leaving Juliana with dad for two days of childcare and the full weekend. This was a golden opportunity for dad to spend some quality time with his youngest daughter, for the youngest daughter to get used to not having mum around, and for mum to enjoy not having this little munchkin on her skirt all the time. Juliana would cry occasionally, but otherwise enjoyed the outings to the playground, shopping (dad sticks her in a rucksack and can cope with her for a quick shop), a long walk on Sunday, and getting extra childcare time.
The first stop on the way to the snow was the big merino in Goulburn. The second stop was the dinosaur museum in Canberra. The third stop was Jindabyne, where we rented skis. Everybody arrived at the cottage in the late afternoon.
On Saturday, the weather was grim with constant rain, so we wondered what the day would unfold. Fortunately, we had booked a private lesson, which worked out well, although mum had to take Emma inside to warm up (and get into a better mood). We were getting wet from the rain, met up with the group of friends - who seemed to be even wetter - for a bit of skiing together and we called it an early day.
The Sunday was marvellously sunny, with the kids in great spirit. Friends took them up the slopes and down again so many times until the kids were done with skiing. Mum took Emma to the toboggan slope where she had fun with Maisy. Very tired, the kids wanted to finish the day with a snowball fight and building a snowman. That did not go perfect, but overall Emma and especially Piet had a great weekend.
